I realise that not every blog entry has to be a mini-essay and treatise on the issues in me head. Sometimes short and sweet can be just as good as long, with pictures, etc.
Anyhow I was thinking, why are we so content with church that’s not really in line with the character that the Bible outlines? Why are people making more of a big deal about the minor issues of maintaining their traditional status quo rather than being concerned for the larger issues of the state of man’s relationship with God? Not only why are these things the case, but how can we contribute towards a Christian community that majors on the majors and minors on the minors?
Why are even Christians making a big deal of the General Election as if their vote truly makes a difference to the spiritual shape and state of a country that never really committed itself wholehearted to Jesus Christ in the first place? It still rankles with me that the definition of a Christian country is so lax or so legalistic that the actual definition of anything truly Christian (as in that which follows the example of Christ almost like a mini-Christ) matters not one jot. I’ve read articles that have manipulated scriptures to indicate that it’s a Christian’s duty and godly responsibility to vote! What utter hogwash. Why can’t these dearly beloved misguided brothers and sisters in Christ get it that in as much as our earthly duties reflect heavenly priorities, our status as strangers, sojourners, pilgrims and aliens in this world means we don’t hold such worldly concepts as democracy too close to heart. It’s not as though God spoke the Word and the Word was democracy.
As I said it’s not a mini-essay, just some thoughts that bug me and that I know solutions are to be discovered in God’s Word in action through day to day life. So until then my soul will keep on singing, until then with joy I’ll carry on, etc.
For His Name’s Sake
