I Feel Like Pressing My Way

There are those from a particular school of church songs who will look at this title and think of a typical reggae-esque chorus which has the following lyrics:

I feel like pressing my way (x2)

I’m on my way to glory

And I feel like pressing my way

Well crafted, studied and profound lyrics I’m sure you’ll agree, but when you hear the people put it together in a jinky-jinky beat and see the old dears in the church roll back the decades you’ll understand (or hunderstand depending on the old sister you check) why it’s still a church favourite.

So it’s reassuring to actually state that this blog isn’t that chorus but echoes the sentiments to be found in that there song.

This song I believe is not for those hilltop experiences, these are very much for the valley when all the odds would suggest that you’re not going to make it.  Even your feelings conspire against you and wish you to get all upset at the physical situation around you.  The reality of faith in Christ is that we are part of a narrative that has seen people battered, bruised, persecuted and punished by inexorably trying circumstances and yet they find themselves in the Hall of Faith which the Son is waiting to bestow on the world.

That in itself is good news and helps in those valley moments to get to that point where the words are not just song lyrics but restating our position by faith and the power of He that lives within us.

For His Name’s Sake

  1. Hey Christopher,

The video doesn’t work for me (it says ‘video unavailable’) but I was able to find a version on YouTube. Sounds like a cool song 🙂

And I agree with the sentiment of your post; that suffering and hardship are inexorably bound up with true Christianity. So songs like this are important!

    Peace be with you.

    Steven
