How’s Authrine And the Baby

So I was there minding my own business, just got home from seeing the wife for another day.  She was scheduled to be going to the delivery suite but like the second coming of the Messiah no one knew the hour that this would take place.  Yet no sooner had I settled down to some grub for the evening than I got the contact to make my way back to the hospital for the fun and games.

Kick off for the match started in earnest at 10pm.  I’d arrived 20 minutes earlier to head for the pitch (aka delivery suite) and saw that the team (my wife) were already set for kick off.  The referee (midwife Penny) explained the nature of the game – Authrine would be checked after breaking her waters to see if she would get into labour herself.  If that didn’t happen after an hour then some hormone stimulant would be administered to assist the process and see how the game would go from there.

This school choir is singing Bad Boys by Alexandra Burke ... maybe

I took my place on the bench alongside the team to encourage her along.  So kick off was just after 10pm when the waters broke – what a great phrase, eh, waters breaking.  Waters breaking what?  Breaking records?  But once the flood came Authrine had some contractions, but over the hour insufficient to really suggest that she would be able to make it on her own.  This despite my best efforts to egg Authrine on with encouraging words about why we sang the songs we did at school.

Why did we sing those songs at school?  Ever ask yourself that question?  I sang Lady Madonna, Penny Lane and Yellow Submarine as a 12 year old, why?  I sang Windmills of Your Mind as a 12 year old, why?  I sang Girl From Ipanema as a 13 year old, why?  I didn’t even know where Ipanema was at that age!  What were they thinking?  Does that mean Deborah and Abigail will be singing Angels by Robbie Williams?  Authrine even suggested that my dear beloved girls could be singing Alexandra Burke’s Bad Boys during music lessons … what??? What??

So it’s amazing that despite all this encouragement to induce the sufficient labour, Authrine after the hour had to take on the stimulants.  Indeed they acted as they were meant to and by after midnight, Authrine was just about ready to deliver the goods.  Indeed by 12:30 it looked as if she would deliver …

But then … danger … trouble …

Authrine was ready to push but didn’t have the baby in the right place or her own inner business ready to sort.  Despite being desperate to push had she had done so it would have risked her and the baby especially with her SPD causing considerable pain.  In fact such was the agony of the SPD that Authrine was virtually immobile.

Would The Wife Have To Undergo The Dreaded Epidural?

After Penny checked her over – which took a considerable time – it was decided that she would need … the epidural.  Just as the expert came in and demanded that Authrien get in a position to receive the due procedure, Authrine felt and unstoppable urge to push.  Being unstoppable in nature, there was nothing to do to stop it.  So at 01:25 Authrine pushed against all the odds, and as ever against all the odds at 01:25 Authrine delivered the goods and out popped the head of the baby.

Unlike any of the previous deliveries the head popped out and took a look around at the surroundings almost as if taking in the view before deciding whether to stay out or not.  However with this being an unstoppable thing, Authrine pushed again and the rest of the baby emerged to the sound of plopping on the soft area below..

The baby was quickly cleaned up and was relatively unruffled by the whole drama that surrounded the arrival.  The baby took a chill out in the crib prepared to watch the mother suffer with great agony in the clean up process.  Her SPD was affecting her so badly that she was unable to move and was suffering with great agony.  Yet to the immense joy of everyone else, she had pulled it off again.  After taking the necessary medication, Authrine was sedated whilst the baby chilled out.

This where the SPD affects Authrine and what severely limits movement

Since then I’ve checked on the mother today and she’s doing ever so well in staying alive.  Her mobility is still severely restricted, but she’s conscious and able to look after her baby, for which I am grateful to God.

So there you go that’s the amazing story around the birth of the child that has caused so much agony and so much joy for us.  It was so great to see that the baby came out and was healthy, remaining cool, calm and collected under pressure, just like the baby’s … parents.

Oh yeah the baby weighed in at 6lb13oz making the baby the heaviest in the history of Authrine’s birthgiving business aka the baby is The Heavyweight Champion of the World (of Drydens … from Authrine).

Oh yeah and about the gender of the baby.  Well after many differing views on it and the possibility of it being one or the other I can now say beyond a shadow of a doubt that the baby who emerged from Authrine Dryden at 01:25 on Saturday 10th April 2010 was a …

Healthy, bouncy, baby …

Girl.

Thus coming soon to a blog near you the exclusive first photos of the newest addition to the Dryden family – younger sister to Kevaughn Everton, Deborah Christina and Abigail Elizabeth Danielle, latest child of Authrine Elizabeth and Christopher Luketon John

Miss Zoë Anya-Cheryse Dryden.

More on that and much more in future blogs.  Thanks for your ongoing prayers.

  3. Well done Chris and Authrine, how under valued is the part we Father’s play in the journey to producing our off-spring. Chris you have clearly shown, in your blog, the full and vital involvement that you had in delivering Zoe into the bossom of your family. God bless you and your girls. Authrine, I am only joking about Chris’ full and vital part but I am sure that he will pull his weight in these first weeks of new life :-).
