MTP08 Wisdom – What A Lady

I was reading Proverbs 8 – of course I was or else I wouldn’t be able to put this post together – in any case I read it, then I read it again, then I left it for about an hour or nine and read it again for me wife.  Sometimes when you read something out for someone else to hear you get something from it that you didn’t get from reading it to yourself.

It was apt that I was reading it for me wife, for she holds the key to a particular understanding of this chapter.  If you’re going to get to a husband the best way is to get to his wife or significant female in his life whether that’s his mother or sister or mother.  Inflict some damage on them and it won’t take much to incur their wrath.  Likewise if you want to ingratiate yourself into a man’s good books an honourable, pure and decent approach to that significant female other will get their attention.

When you read the qualifications of wisdom as she speaks out loud at the entrance to the town and how valuable she is, you’ll note that She is so special that before any aspect of creation came about she came forth.  She is God’s most prized outlet, it’s literally like She’s His favourite lady (I’m going for daughter rather than wife) who was deeply involved in the creative project.

So if you’re going to get to God what better way than to go through His favourite lady?  What better way to get God’s attention to prize and value that which God evidently prized and valued even before we came about?

That’s just some of the benefits of seeking wisdom more than anything, check out some of the other credentials …

Rule Well (vs.15, 16) – They say behind every successful man is a good woman, of course what they had in mind was your spouse, but what God has in mind is Lady Wisdom herself.  Now I know that not many are kings or rulers and so we can sit back and think that’s nice for them, but think on.  You are a ruler – you rule your affairs at home don’t you?  What clothes you wear, what food you eat, when you eat it, choice of friends, money habits, pastimes and pursuits – you rule over these, or as in most cases they often rule over you.  Here to be able to rule well the suggestion and strong encouragement is to get Lady Wisdom behind you.  If she can help rulers sort out the affairs of entire kingdoms, managing your wages should be a doddle.

Good Fruit (vs. 18, 19) – By that I’m not referring to quality apples and pears (unless of course that is the area of your calling), but talking about substantial, quality outcomes of every endeavour in which you invest.  It’s easy to go after material riches but what Lady Wisdom guarantees is something far more costly and worth valuing – so being rich or not is no longer the goal or marker for success.  That we get this is a pleasant bonus, but with Lady Wisdom onside we can look forward to those invisible qualities that allow us to make the most of whatever material comes our way.

These are just a sampling of the qualities that await those who fulfil one small obligation in her pitch found in verse 17

I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.

The days of having those posters up on the wall of the fancy women of today have to be over, and fantasising over the latest model is a waste of time compared to this worthwhile pursuit.  If there is a woman worth desiring, it has to be this one.  What a lady.

In the pursuit the cautionary and encouraging last words of her pitch are worth bearing in mind, proving again that to get to the ultimate, it’s worth getting to His Lady.

For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death. (Pro 8:35-36)

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
