Is That What I Believe? Regeneration

I’ve written before on some beautiful experiences I’ve had with people who walk with Jesus and have differing opinions on that journey.  One particular area of difference is the role that man and God play in the relationship.  Where I’m at in life presently I’m persuaded that the natural inclination of man is not towards God.  I’m given various presentations from others to magnify the role of man’s free will in choosing to follow God.  To some extent the argument is that God limits Himself to however a man exercises his free will or else He ain’t such a good God.  In as much as man plays his part in the scheme of things, it is not as exalted as he’d like to think, especially because of the evident inability to remain God-centred in our thoughts, words and behaviours.

Now doctrinal issues are always worth pursuing diligently and deeply.  So I don’t pin my badge on all that is Calvinistic and its reading of the doctrine of regeneration.  Where I’m at presently, though, I’ll tend to go with the premise of the doctrine and agree that in this day and age it’s no longer emphasised in a bid to give man the central role in his relationship with God almost as though the gospel is anthropocentric.  That actually disgusts me and seems to be no departure from the condition that got humanity in problems in the first place.  It’s also a good reason why such a radical supernatural work is needed in the first place and makes sense of God writing His laws on our hearts – which requires a transplant.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
