Where Are We Now?

So where are we now?  The first entry of the year gave a good indication that things would be new in a lot of different areas in  life.  Stepping into this new was not straightforward and some indication of how to get there began with an ongoing awareness of God in all of life which formed the next part in the journey in the year so far.

There was the appreciation that although there’s no such thing as a blank piece of paper when it comes to life’s issue, God is willing to illuminate things on the script of life that had not been considered previously.  So with every new chapter of life – like a new day – there’s the chance to engage with what is written and said by the Author without being constrained by our past.

Focussing on the new and what the Author has in the script is particularly helpful in preventing succumbing to the superman complex by the power of the gospel.  That focus as well can help to shape what the hello is once we learn how to say goodbye properly, whilst maintaining a truly significant understanding of what it is to be spiritually ambitious.  Yet whilst enjoying all that activity and progress appreciating the crucial role that rest plays in it all as indicated from the beginning.

There has been a much needed reminder that despite the ease in bringing up ugly aspects to life, as people of God we’re encouraged in the journey to keep thinking on the things that relate to goodly and godly ways.  Also reflecting on the new also gets you considering how you considered things before and if they are all they are cracked up to be.  This is especially important not to get sucked into ways of thinking that may appear beneficial, but are actually fatally flawed.  Also when considering how easy it is to be suckered off the path there is the constant reminder of God’s faithfulness ensuring those gentle and not gentle nudges to keep it straight in the walk even despite myself.

It’s not just about travel and going places.  You can sit and remember how you got to where you are going and pay tribute to those who have helped make the journey enjoyable, whether those who are far away and through the creative means, or whether they are immediate close working relationships.

Where all this has been leading to is the recently completed first season of the Law & Order: Spiritual Intent series.  This is a very important juncture in the story.  This whole journey is premised on the priority of God and all guidance and motivation comes from Him.  The very narrative of the people of Israel coming out and then wandering in the wilderness – being tested to prove their faithfulness in the light of His faithfulness – before settling in the promised land is very apt for any journey in building a relationship with God.  Just because you’re taken out, the journey only begins there and requires you to get to know the One with whom you’re travelling.  You’ll note that it’s the first season of the series.  Exploring His Word and considering how relational the concept of law and order is makes certain things clearer than ever before and if there’s ever going to be any order from the chaos of the messy life in which we live, following His Word will be a great help.

So that’s where I am not just blogging wise, but also in my own life.  I enjoy the updates and the relative consistency of the posts here this year so far.  Reading through some of the entries I feel that it’s been a fairly rich season for better writing from me on a range of subject than before.  It has been a great outlet to blog some things that has been on my heart and see it’s connection with God. I trust that will grow in intensity as I get to know Him through the challenges and joys of this life.

I also enjoy doing more entries at the other place and have a steadily growing backlog of books to review and music tracks to use as the  basis for more entries.  That’s a good place to be.  That good place, however, is not made good primarily by material status.  Without going into the details it is a very challenging time for the Drydens, but as opposed to previous trying times, there is an opportunity to prove God in just continuing to do what I’ve been called to do.  Part of that is the writing I enjoy doing and which I trust will be a record of how He takes me on the paths of righteousness …

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
